Latoya Ruby Frazier
Racism. Industrialism. Environmental injustice. Healthcare Inequalities. Latoya Ruby Frazier calls these problems global issues and uses her art to express the harm these issues have on individual bodies, relationships and spaces. Inspired by photographer Gordon Parks, Frazier uses photography, video and performance to build visual archives that document the impact of systemic problems. Frazier’s work has been exhibited widely in the U.S. and internationally. Frazier is a recipient of numerous honors and awards including the MacArthur “Genius” Award. In 2015, she was awarded a Proclamation by her home county and officially thanked for “examining race, class, gender and citizenship in our society and inspiring a vision for the future that offers inclusion, equity and justice to all.” She was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania.
